Terms of Service
The agreement for the amlistening website and desktop app.
In effect from 20 September 2026.
Who we are
amlistening is an independent product, made and run from California in the United States. “We” and “us” in these terms mean its operator.
Questions, and any formal notice under these terms, go to support@amlistening.app. A person reads it.
The consumer rights the law gives you where you live come first wherever they and these terms overlap.
What the service is
amlistening is an on-device recorder and transcriber for Windows, macOS and Linux. It records, transcribes, reviews and exports on your machine. This website sells Pro and holds your account and licence; the app does not send it your recordings or transcripts. The Privacy Policy says what both send, and What leaves your machine lists every network call.
Where we sell
Pro is sold in the United States and in most of the world, but not in the European Union, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Gibraltar. Checkout refuses a payment from those places. Buying Pro from one of them anyway — with an address or a payment method there, or by concealing where you are — is outside what these terms permit, and if a subscription is bought that way we will cancel it and refund what was paid.
The free version carries no such restriction. It needs no account, no payment and no network, so anyone anywhere may download and use it under the licence below.
Your account
Free needs no account. Pro needs one: your name, your email and a password, which Supabase Auth stores as a hash rather than as plain text. Keep the password to yourself, and tell us straight away if you think someone else has it.
An account is for one person and its licence is not to be shared. One person may install the app and sign in on the machines they use themselves; each machine holds its own licence. You must be old enough to enter into a contract where you live to buy Pro.
Your licence
Buying Pro accepts these terms: Stripe's checkout page asks you to agree to them before it takes a payment, and creating an account agrees to them too. That is where acceptance is recorded.
Free asks for neither an account nor a payment, so there is no moment at which you accept anything, and we do not pretend otherwise. What governs Free is this section: the permission to use the app, and the limits on it.
Free is a personal, non-exclusive licence to use the app at no charge within those limits — 10 takes of 5 minutes each, counted from the Free takes in your library. Pro is the same licence without them, for the period you pay for.
A Pro licence is a signed token that expires and is refreshed online, so Pro needs a network from time to time. Recording, transcription, review and export need no network at any tier.
Do not resell or rent the app, or work around the licence checks. The app ships third-party software and speech models under their own licences, which travel with it.
Your recordings, transcripts and annotations are yours; we claim no rights in them. Recording other people is regulated in many places, and complying with it is your responsibility. Local processing is not permission to record.
Payment, renewal and cancellation
Pro is a subscription, sold through Stripe as Monthly or Yearly. Prices are on the pricing page, and the amount you will be charged is on Stripe's checkout page before you pay. It renews automatically at the same price, for the same period, until you cancel.
Cancel any time from Manage billing on the account or pricing page. Cancelling stops future charges, and you keep Pro until the paid-through date shown on your account. After that the app falls back to Free — nothing you recorded is locked, and playback, transcripts, corrections, tags and export work at every tier.
Pro can also end for cause: a payment refunded in full, or a subscription whose payments fail for good after Stripe stops retrying. No further licence is issued, and the app falls back to Free when its cached one expires — up to 30 days later, because a licence stays valid offline for that long. Your takes are untouched either way.
A price change never applies to a period you have already paid for. We will email you at least 30 days before one applies to a renewal, so you can cancel first.
Refunds
Ask within 14 days of a payment and we refund it in full, no questions asked. Email support@amlistening.app and say which payment. It goes back through Stripe to the card or account it came from; we start it when we read your email, and how long it then takes to land is your bank's to decide.
A refund in full ends the Pro licence, as Payment, renewal and cancellation describes. Your takes are untouched, and everything but the Free limits keeps working.
This sits on top of the law, not instead of it. Nothing here takes away a consumer right you have where you live.
Our responsibility
The app is a tool, and transcription is machine output: it can be wrong, so read it before you rely on it. We cannot promise the app will never be interrupted or never have a fault, or that a speech model will transcribe any particular recording accurately. Where the law where you live gives you rights about the quality of what you paid for, you keep them.
If we owe you something, what we owe is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. That limit never covers death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or anything else the law does not allow to be limited, and it does not reduce your rights as a consumer.
Changes to these terms
These terms take effect on the date at the top of this page. They may change when the app, the law, or the way Pro is sold changes, and every change appears here with a new date.
A material change is emailed to account holders at least 30 days before it takes effect. It is never applied quietly by posting.
If a material change affects what you have already paid for and you do not want it, cancel before it takes effect and we refund the unused part of the period you paid for. That is separate from the 14-day policy above and has no window of its own.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and disputes about them are heard by the state and federal courts of California.
If you are a consumer, that does not take away the protections of the law where you live, or your right to bring a claim in your local courts where that law gives you one. Small claims court stays open to both of us whatever else this section says.
